St. Ita's Hospital Radio was the first radio station in Ireland to receive one of the new broadcast licenses when the minister for communications of the day introduced the broadcasting bill in the late 1980s. The station now operates from a modern studio with professional equipment in compliance with the criteria laid down by the Broadcast Commission of Ireland under a five year licence.
At present we have 15 voluntary presenters and we broadcast around the clock with live shows from 10am to 2pm each day and automated play lists for the remainder which has proved immensely popular with our audience. You can download mp3 promos for the various shows on our schedule page.
While our music is primarily middle of the road we always bear in mind the diversity of tastes within the hospital and surrounding area and endeavour to cater for all their musical tastes . You are as likely to hear Elvis Presley as to hear Eminem !!
Tuesdays feature our popular weekly Hospital Radio Free Bingo for residents, while services to the wider community of Swords Malahide Rush and Howth include Community Notice-board, For Sale & Wanted and Job Spot. More details on all our services are available on our Services Page. Our request line is always open and we have recent installed an sms service to assist our listeners in contacting us.
Funding for our service comes from The Health Executive as well as the occasional fund raising event and selected sponsorship partners and local businesses. At this point we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Shannon Solicitors for their continued support of our work. For further details on how you can increase local awareness of your business or service please contact us , but note we are forbidden under our current license to advertise.
While we are extremely fortunate to have gathered a very dedicated team of presenters and people with expertise in various areas of production and technology at the station we are always on the lookout for fresh ideas and new personalities to join our crew. If you have a few hours to spare or have a talent or area of expertise that you are willing to make available on a voluntary basis then don't hesitate to contact us. No previous radio experience is necessary as training will be given. All applicants will be vetted.
That is a brief history of the Station . If you think you can add anything I would love to hear from you.
